Our Mission
Minor Power is dedicated to advancing youth voting rights and empowering those under 18 to have a meaningful say in our democracy. We believe that age should not be a barrier to civic inclusion and that enfranchising youth will lead to a more vibrant, equitable, and forward-thinking society. Through education, advocacy, and community building, we aim to create a future where every citizen, regardless of age, has the power to shape the decisions that affect their lives and our shared future.

Goal One
Educate the public about the importance and benefits of youth enfranchisement.
Extending voting rights to young people is fair, principled, and good. Those who will live longest with the consequences of political decisions deserve a say in making them. And excluding our youngest citizens distorts public policy in ways that lead to worse outcomes for all of us. At Minor Power, we offer the evidence in support of youth voting rights and seek to address the most common concerns people have about expanding the franchise.
Goal Two
Advocate for legal and policy changes to lower or eliminate voting age restrictions.
We support multiple pathways to expanding youth voting rights, from municipal and state-level reforms to federal legislation. The current system unfairly excludes 73 million Americans under the age of 18—one in five citizens—from having a voice in decisions that directly affect their lives and futures. Our aim is to provide advocacy tools for youth voting rights activists, draft laws for legislators, and persuasive content to build public support.
Goal Three
Empower young people to become active participants in the democratic process.
We believe that young people should be at the forefront of efforts to secure their voting rights. We seek to encourage and amplify the voices of youth activists seeking to lower or eliminate the voting age. Embracing a broad vision of democratic engagement, we also support efforts to prepare young people to be informed voters and to empower them in their schools and communities. By developing and exercising civic skills early, young people are best prepared to be lifelong active citizens.

Goal Four
Foster intergenerational dialogue and collaboration on civic issues.
Different generations bring unique insights and experiences to discussions about our shared future. Rather than pitting young against old, we seek to build bridges and create spaces where people of all ages can work together to address common challenges. We believe that including youth perspectives benefits everyone by leading to more innovative and sustainable solutions to societal problems.
Goal Five
Support research and initiatives that promote youth political engagement.
We promote evidence-based approaches to expanding youth civic participation and study the impacts of youth voting where it has been implemented. Through partnerships with researchers, educators, and youth organizations, we work to identify and share best practices for engaging young people in democracy. We believe that rigorous research and real-world evidence are essential to advancing youth voting rights and dismantling common misconceptions about the value and viability of youth participation in our democracy.
