High School Teacher’s Guide for A Minor Revolution

For teachers looking to engage their students in a broader conversation about children’s rights, Minor Power recommends the free High School Teacher’s Guide for the book A Minor Revolution: How Prioritizing Kids Benefits Us All (Crown / Penguin Random House). The Guide is designed it to both minimize prep work and provide flexibility, so that teachers can tailor the provided materials to their particular needs. There are over 100 questions, organized by chapter, for those wishing to make the book a core text discussed over multiple class periods. But teachers can also cover the book in a single class, picking out two or three questions from each chapter for discussion. Some teachers may also wish to use one or more of the questions for a written reading response, before, during, or after class. However, a separate set of writing prompts are included in Part II. The questions are designed to engage students who have only skimmed the relevant chapter (or skipped it entirely!), so some adopters may wish to add questions geared toward reviewing factual information or assessing reading comprehension (e.g., What are the benefits of paid parental leave?). Part III includes ideas for service and activism projects.
